The National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) is the national membership organization for the nation’s federally qualified health centers (also known as FQHCs or Community Health Centers). Health centers are nonprofit, community-directed health clinics that provide access to high-quality, culturally competent, and comprehensive care to people living in medically underserved areas. NACHC strengthens the health center movement through advocacy, training, and technical assistance, clinical and operations support. NACHC is committed to an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.

This is a remarkable opportunity for a self-motivated and forward-thinking leader to join a rapidly growing organization.  In addition to guiding a mission-driven group of talented staff, the Chief Operating Officer will work alongside the President and CEO to implement the strategic priorities for the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC).  NACHC is seeking a dynamic, nimble, exceptionally analytical and highly collaborative COO to implement and direct its enhanced operational, technology and system capabilities, along with its major strategic initiatives.

Founded in 1971, NACHC serves as the leading national advocacy organization in support of Community Health Centers (CHCs) and the expansion of heath care access for the medically underserved and uninsured.  As the CHC Movement grows in size and strength to be ready to meet the challenges of the future, NACHC stands committed, along with its talented staff and board, to being the champion for every health center in this nation.  NACHC is focused on ensuring that health centers, across the country, become the “employer of choice, provider of choice, and partner of choice!”  Today NACHC supports over 1,400 Community Health Center grantees and look-alikes providing care at 15,000 locations across the country serving over 31 million patients.

The Community Health Center movement was born in the 1960’s out of the War on Poverty and the Civil Rights Movement and, from their very beginnings, community health centers have been dedicated to addressing the social drivers of health, anti-racism, Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.  NACHC shares these same roots.

Reporting directly to and partnering with the President & CEO, NACHC’s COO will provide oversight of the organization’s Operation’s team, ensuring that clear strategic objectives are established, that can be measured and achieved. The COO will partner effectively with the President & CEO to provide the necessary leadership, vision and management skills to communicate and develop new infrastructure that ensures people, processes and systems to achieve positive results.

As part of NACHC’s Leadership Team, the COO will lead change management efforts, which include identifying gaps or barriers to transformation and growth while simultaneously building a high-performance, results-driven culture that shares institutional knowledge and develops leaders across the organization.

More specifically, NACHC is seeking a COO who will bring the following:

·        Minimum of eight years of strong operational experience; ideally has worked in a senior management role for 5+ years. Experience working in the Health Center Movement preferred.

·        Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in public health, public administration, business administration or a related field preferred.

·        Proven track record of success in leading and managing complex organizations.

·        Skills should include organizational development, personnel management, budget and resource development, process improvement, performance management, and strategic planning.

·        Experience managing change in a complex organization and a proven record of converting strategy into effective execution.

·        Authentic and connected leader with excellent communication, interpersonal and team building skills.

·        Results-oriented and forward-looking operational leader who brings an appreciation and understanding for talent, organizational assessment, and effective short-term and long-term planning to implement strategies.

·        Strong financial and analytical skills.

·        Flexible and able to multi-task; ability to work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment while also driving toward clarity and solutions; demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems.

·        Commitment to NACHC’s mission and values.

The COO will have a hybrid work arrangement.  The COO will be expected to be in the office two to three days a week.
