The Clinical Informatics SME position plays a critical role in building human-centered informatics content for use in analytics, quality improvement and training within the Clinical Affairs Division (CAD), across NACHC internally and as part of NACHC work with federal and community health center partners. The informatics SME will be responsible for supporting quality improvement efforts around clinical and public health goals and projects. They will also provide SME support for an organization-wide data dictionary, testing and sandbox framework, and software applications to support projects that improve health center care.

 The successful candidate will have the ability to understand and manipulate clinical data and provide user expertise for clinical decision support and other interoperability solutions to support patient-centered care and care coordination. A knowledge of healthcare standards including Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) and clinical terminologies is strongly preferred. The candidate will work with community health center and federal partners to design solutions to address important issues in public health and the improvement of clinical care for NACHC and its partners. Experience working in clinical settings is required. Ability to communicate data to non-technical audiences is critical, as is the ability to manage across multiple projects and teams. Ideal candidate has familiarity with clinical quality measures, clinical decision support and high-level regulatory requirements in healthcare. This professional will work with the clinical data analyst to build a NACHC Data Dictionary and support informatics applications development.  The successful candidate must have ability to work in an Agile team and good organizational skills.

 

Specific Duties:

 

Data and Measure Harmonization:

  • Work closely with Informatics leadership and CAD teams to build, map, and communicate a data dictionary
  • Assist informatics team in mapping and transforming data to the standard Data Dictionary format from existing clinical measures and other projects
  • Perform environmental scans of external data sets and measures and suggest maps or transformations for alignment
  • Coordinate with CAD program leads to identify and align measures

 

Content Development:

  • Document a process for definition, incorporating and documenting data elements for inclusion in the NACHC Data Dictionary
  • Support team leads with informatics design for clinical, public health and research projects
  • Document a process and best practices for informatics design and implementation planning
  • Define and document user requirements for internal NACHC projects and external projects in informatics
  • Support quality improvement efforts using informatics approach

 

Required Qualifications:

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a clinical field such as nursing, public health, pharmacy, social work or medicine
  • Master’s strongly preferred in informatics or related field, experience considered

 

Experience/Ability/Knowledge:

  • 2 years of relevant experience working in a clinical setting, community health center experience strongly preferred
  • 2 years working in clinical informatics
  • Experience working with EHR vendors and population health management systems
  • Previous experience working with structured clinical data and quality measures strongly preferred
  • Experience or training in human-centered design preferred
  • Experience in agile development preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Must be able to balance multiple deadlines and deliver on time or early
  • Must have demonstrated attention to detail
  • Knowledge of clinical terminologies including SNOMED-CT, LOINC, RxNorm, ICD-10, and CPT a plus
  • Experience in FHIR and clinical standards ideal
  • Experience in Agile development ideal
